Wasn’t quite the week long trip we were hoping for pre covid (sigh) but we were lucky enough to still get away for a couple of days in not so sunny Torquay and had a lovely time and found some great places to eat. I would say not a solitary plate of chips in sight but I did quite fancy a plate of chips when we got there. And they did not disappoint!!

The first night we were there we played it safe and went to the Visto Lounge. Being from the home of the Lounge bar we always pop in when we see one as there are lots of great choices and something for everyone. I opted for my usual of vegan burger, followed by my usual comment of is this actually vegan? Their burgers never look fake enough!!

We discovered a lovely pub off the the main highstreet for lunch complete with a lovely Zen Garden and pond Mr Miyagi would have been proud of ( really enjoying 80/90s cult films right now, especially the Karate Kid, okay maybe not the 4th so much….).

I would definately reccomend visting the Rock Garden if you are ever in Torquay. Lovely chilled out vibes and had a great veggie and vegan menu and pretty reasonably priced. I went for the BBQ Jackfruit Ciabatta.

Our final night ( a Friday) we struggled a little to find somewhere to eat especially as I am apparently a ‘fussy vegan’. We passed a placed called ‘The Shack’ and saw they had hot dogs on the menu. Wasn’t sure and kept thinking how will a hot dog fill me up? I was so wrong!! The staff here were very accomodating and friendly and managed to squeeze us in. We ended up staying for a three course meal complete with a doggy bag for the leftovers!! The manager was really clued up on vegan meals and was really helpful in suggesting food for me. I would 100% travel the 2 hour journey just for the Nachos!!

Overall we had a great time away (albeit mostly eating due to the weather being a bit rubbish). Can’t wait to be back in the English Riveria next year! hopefully for the full week next time!!!!
