One of my biggest finds during lockdown was that Olaplex is both cruelty free and vegan!!! And I really wish I had discovered this fact sooner!! My extremely over processed dry brittle snapped hair has been crying out for some TLC and using the number 3 and number 6 has been a godsend, however it hasn’t been enough.

So when I discovered that Olaplex have released a new product into their range just last week I thought how was as good a time as any to stock up on some essentials

So what is olaplex?

In a nutshell Olaplex contains synthetic bonds which repair the hair at a molecular level to restore and repair the hair… basically make it look nicer and less rubbish or something like that! I have linked in the Olaplex website as they do the ‘science’ but far better than I even could!! https://olaplex.com/pages/frequently-asked-questions

There are several products in the olaplex range 0- which is a primer and is to be used before step 2. 1&2 which are salon only products 2- which is a pre wash treatment 4&5 which are a shampoo and conditioner, 6 which is a leave in conditioner and 7 which is an oil

As mentioned before I have been using 3 and 6 since the end of may (around the time I started bleaching my own hair in the absence of my hairdresser -cheers Covid) and to test whether the newly released 0 makes any difference I have stuck to my usual hair routine of using daddio shampoo and Aga’s conditioner in the shower and #gains and super milk after as pictured above And just to make the test a little tougher I omitted one step of using a moisturising shampoo which the purple shampoo as I normally do as the purple shampoo really dries my hair out.

As with all the other Olaplex products the new 0 is priced at £26. And came with a sample of the number 3 treatment also. It is designed to act as a primer for the number 3 and should be used at least 10 minutes before applying number 3. It is quite watery in consistency and did find it a little hard to apply for this reason. Next time I think I’ll try saturating the roots more and comb through to the ends. The hair should be fully saturated and the product should last 3-6 uses, which does make the product fairly expensive. I have used this product twice so far and have used around the quarter of a bottle and have hair down just past my shoulders so feel I’d probably get about 8 applications from this so should last about a month to 6 weeks depending on how often I use it. I don’t think I used enough the first time though.

After around 10 minutes I added the Number Three as usual on top of the Zero. The first time I did the complete treatment I left it in for around an hour. The second time I got lazy and slept in it. Olaplex do not recommend this however due to the risk of it getting into your eyes. I do find the longer I leave it in the better the results.

After eventually washing out on to the after care. As mentioned above I used these in addition to some of my usual aftercare products (mainly as I originally did not realise that Number Six is actually a leave in conditioner and now I am just used to using both!!) I have been using the Number Six for some time and do sometimes add some into dry hair in between washes on the really dry snapped bits. I do see an improvement using the Number Six but it isnt always instant, but this was the case before I reintroduced Olaplex into my rountine. It would often feel a little dry when blow drying before bed and wake up to much softer hair so this is usual for me. Both products have reduced my blow dry time quite considerably which hopefully is a sign that my hair is becoming less pourous and the oil has added heat protections.

My Thoughts?

It is still early days but my hair is feeling a lot better, I had it bleached again approximately a week ago so it was really dry when I added the Zero and Seven into my hair routine and I have seen drastic improvements, albeit not instant ones. Think Frazzled Barbie to regular Barbie in two uses, but so far I havent seen a massive difference between using zero and Three versus Three on its own but as I’ve only used it twice. I will see what the difference is like at the end of the bottle. I will continue to use 2-3 times a week for the next couple of weeks as recommended for really damaged hair and will update my review with the differences in my hair. I am also looking at hair growth, i.e is it still snapping as my roots grow quite quickly but my hair never seems to get longer. If I can reduce the snapage then one day I may resemble Rapunzle 🙂

Where did I purchase the products?

I bought all the Olaplex products from Cult Beauty and I have added a voucher code in the discounts section of the site. This will get you £10 off a £50 spend on your first order which would make two products £42 which works out a little cheaper than the 10% off your first order currently on Cult Beauty’s website if you spend under £100.

The Lush products are from the Lush Hair Lab in Poole and are also sold in their Liverpool store. Many of these products can also be found at uk.lush.com
